Windows "Messenger Service" spam

If, whilst you are using Windows Messenger, you receive a pop up entitled "Messenger Service", "Message from source to..." or "Message Text", then please be aware that this might not be a legitimate message. This is not specifically a Microsoft issue and unfortunately it is becoming more common. To read why it is happening, please read these two articles:

Stop Messenger Spam
To prevent Windows Messenger spam:
- Click Start and then Control Panel.
- Click Administrative Tools.
- Click Services.
- Locate Messenger, right-click on your mouse and select Properties.
- Under the General tab / Startup Type select disabled from the drop down menu.
- Click the Stop button.
- Click OK to save.
