1) If your Hotmail account is not associated with a paid subscription service
a. Sign in to your Hotmail account
b. Click the “Help” link
c. Type cancel account into the Search MSN Hotmail help search bar and press enter.
d. Click “Close your account”
e. Click the “Take me there” for customers that do not use their free Hotmail accounts to sign in to another service.
f. Click the “Close My Account” button.
Note: if you decide that you do not want to cancel your account after performing the steps above, you can still reactivate your account. Sign in to Hotmail using your Hotmail address and password within 90 days and you will be able to reactivate your account. All messages previously stored in your account will be deleted.
2) If your Hotmail account is associated with a paid subscription service
a. Go to
http://support.ninemsn.com
b. Sign in using the e-mail address and password you want to cancel
c. Under “Subscribed Services / Sign In” click the link for the product associated with your Hotmail account that you wish to cancel (for example, Hotmail Plus, MSN Dial-Up Internet Access, or MSN Premium Internet Software)
d. Under “Tasks” click “Cancel My Account”
e. Follow the instruction on the page to cancel the paid service associated with your Hotmail address.
Note: after you cancel the paid service, you will still be able to use your Hotmail account. Your account will temporarily be reduced to 2 MB and will be upgraded up to the maximum size for a free account after a probationary period of 30 days.
If you want to cancel your Hotmail account, do not sign in to any Passport service for 30 days using your Hotmail e-mail address. You may also follow the instructions below to cancel your account after you have cancelled all paid services associated with it.
